The WWE Universal Championship is a World Championship title in New-WWE, specifically, the top-tier title exclusive to the Raw brand. It was introduced in Season 10, replacing the NXT Championship. Unlike the aforementioned NXT Championship, it is considered to be equal with the WWE World Championship (the top-tier title exclusive to the Smackdown brand). As a result, it can be used to complete Triple Crowns, and counts towards the Grand Slam.
The title was introduced on the first episode of Raw following the brand split being put into place in Season 10, when Raw General Manager John Kimble retired the NXT Championship, replacing it the with the WWE Universal Championship. The first Universal Champion in New-WWE was Belmont, who was awarded the title by Kimble by virtue of him being the final NXT Champion. The current champion is Randy Orton, who is in his first title reign.
